Trump says he will sue the BBC, which apologized for editing a documentary about him but refused to compensate him.
Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said he will take legal action against the BBC over how the Panorama program edited his speech; this came after the corporation apologized but refused to compensate him. Trump said, "We will be suing them for a sum of between $1 billion and $5 billion, probably next week," in a statement to reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday night. The BBC said on Thursday that the editing of the January 6, 2021, speech had unintentionally created "the false impression that Trump had made a direct call to violence" and announced it would not re-air it. The BBC released the statement after Trump's lawyers warned they would sue the BBC for $1 billion in damages if the corporation did not apologize, retract its statements, and pay compensation. The company apologized to the president but maintained that no monetary compensation would be paid.
