Peruvians are having fewer children: births continue to decline.

Since 2022, a decrease in births has been observed in the country as young people prioritize other priorities. "A reduction in the number of births indicates a demographic shift, which could be influenced by a decrease in women's willingness to become mothers, delayed motherhood, or factors such as the labor market or education." In 2025, which recently ended, 376,750 births were registered. This represents a decrease of 13,342 compared to the previous year, 2024. This trend has been reported since 2022, when 466,046 births occurred. A decrease was observed in most regions, with the exception of Ucayali, La Libertad, Tumbes, Loreto, and Madre de Dios. While Arequipa and Cajamarca saw more than a thousand fewer births, Lima experienced a decrease of more than five thousand.
