Following a conversation between Rubio and de la Fuente, the United States issued a stern warning to Mexico regarding fentanyl trafficking.
“The upcoming bilateral meetings with Mexico will require concrete and verifiable results to dismantle narco-terrorist networks and achieve a real reduction in fentanyl trafficking, in order to protect communities on both sides of the border,” the U.S. said. The call between de la Fuente and Rubio comes after a conversation between Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and her U.S. counterpart. Trump had warned of possible ground attacks against drug cartels. Sheinbaum stated in her morning press conference after the call that any U.S. military intervention in Mexico had been ruled out. The region remains on edge following the Trump administration's attack on Caracas and the capture of Nicolás Maduro.
