Curanderismo and shamanism
, although often overlapping, are distinct practices with different cultural roots. Curanderismo is a traditional healing practice that integrates elements of folk medicine, spirituality, and folk magic, while shamanism is a broader system of beliefs and practices that involves communication with the spirit world for healing, guidance, and other purposes. Scope: Shamanism is broader and encompasses a more extensive worldview and spiritual practice than curanderismo, which focuses primarily on healing. Focus: Shamanism focuses on connecting with the spirit world and gaining knowledge and power from that world, while curanderismo focuses more on healing and physical and spiritual well-being. Practices: Shamanic practices can be more diverse and ritualized than those of curanderismo, although both can include the use of plants, rituals, and altered states of consciousness.
