Air Pollution Increases Heart Attacks

A study was conducted in Spain. It confirmed that breathing dirty air has a direct impact on health. The Spanish Society of Cardiology and the Spanish Heart Foundation analyzed 115,071 patients admitted to 122 officially registered hospitals. A PM2 concentration of 10 micrograms per cubic meter was observed. Each PM2 concentration is pollution from vehicles, industry, firewood, and fires that enters the pulmonary alveoli and blood, causing cardiovascular problems. If it exceeds 25 micrograms per cubic meter, it increases the risk of dying from a heart attack. One person dies out of every 125 hospital admissions. In conclusion, pollution not only increases the incidence of heart attacks but also the associated mortality.
